Hi April. I wanted to thank you. First, you were an absolute delight to work with. I do appreciate all of the communication and checking in. Second, you were right the champagne cake was really good and moist and everyone raved about it.
Thank you for everything you did for us! The gluten free cupcakes were excellent and the way you frosted them were my favorite.

Thank you thank you 😊
April is an absolute angel! With only week notice she was able to put together this beautiful cake for my baby shower! It was so special and perfect! Will definitely be coming back for more! The cake itself was exactly what I had wanted without even really knowing what I wanted (and delicious if I may add). If you’re thinking of getting a cake done April is your lady!

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s your specialty?
Wedding cakes are my favorite, but most of my business is birthday cakes, bridal showers, baby showers, gender reveal, piñata cakes, graduation, for any occasion really. I make cupcakes as well and the occasional cheesecake.
Why are custom cakes so expensive?
TIME! I spend an average of 8+ hours designing a custom cake. Starting with phone conferences to help the client decide on cake flavors, fillings and frostings to creating a custom design based on the pictures a client sends me. Making batter flavors, making and coloring frosting, baking and building a custom cake is labor intensive and requires special tools. Just because a cake design looks simple, rarely means that it is simple. Each cake is custom designed and built and made fresh especially for you. I do not have cakes on hand ready for purchase.
How do you determine your cake sizes?
Custom cakes are based on a serving size – party size is based on 1.5×2 inches, and wedding size is 1×2 inches. Most people are unaware of how tiny that is! It’s literally 2-3 bites of cake. I’ve been in this business a long time and have learned to always encourage my clients to increase their serving size by 10-15 people so that when Aunt Edna cuts your cake too big, you don’t run out. I have had one client that chose not to upsize her servings and…you guessed it! She ran out of cake and was then upset with me because she didn’t have enough. You do NOT want to run out of cake!
How far in advance do I need to order my cake?
Please order your cake, cupcakes, or cheesecake as soon as you know you need it! A short notice fee of $35 applies to orders placed less then 2 weeks in advance of the event. I am a full time Pediatric Nurse and there’s only one of me! Every cake I bake is 100% hand-crafted, which takes time and planning.
What’s your design process like?
Please text 3-4 pictures of things you like to 303-898-3940. We will have a phone conference to discuss what you like about each picture, then based on that we will design your cake together.
Do you deliver?
Yes, I charge a $50 delivery/setup fee within 20 miles of my business. I can deliver outside of that area, but it’s not going to be $50 for me to drive to Nebraska (it’s happened!), so we will discuss based on the delivery location.
What’s your pick-up location?
You can pick up either in Brighton or the City Park West neighborhood. Most cakes are fine for pick-up. However, if your design is multi-tiered, delivery is strongly encouraged. Mom’s Cakes is not responsible for cake purchases after pick-up.

How it All Began
The only cake decorating class my Mom ever took was in 1972 when I was a baby. It was a class on how to decorate using a star tip. She took the class with the sole purpose of decorating birthday cakes for me.
One day, a friend asked my Dad if my Mom would make their daughter’s wedding cake. He was so confident in her designing abilities (actually, he probably thought to himself…”Pfff, how hard could it be?!) that he VOLUNTEERED her to make the cake!
After my Mom recovered from the shock and failed to talk our friend into finding someone else, she reluctantly said yes! That first cake took 3 pounds of sugar. WOW! That’s a lot…or so we thought! And so began the adventure. She went on to design multiple wedding cakes for friends and family and became the cake designer for a very exclusive German restaurant!
My Dad would cut the wooden dowels (that was a long time ago) for all of her wedding cakes, help her deliver and stack the cakes. He would also critique the final product and tell her if there were any spots that needed a frosting touch-up or flower.
At the age of 9 or 10, I became her frosting queen! I made the frosting for all of her cakes! It was also the first time I designed a cake of my own…for my Mom and Dad’s 30th wedding anniversary!
When my Dad died in 2001, she thought she would never make another cake again, but I talked her into it! The bottom layer alone weighed 52 pounds!
This was the first fondant-covered cake she had ever made. It was also the very first cake we designed together as a mother/daughter team and my passion for designing cakes came to life!
You see, there is a story behind every cake we design! A story of new love and new life! A story that is filled with hopes and dreams of the future. A story worth celebrating!
